Mrs. Tracy Nerenbaum (Near-in-baum)
I was born in Lafayette, Indiana. I have five brothers and sisters in all. My sister, Vickie, reacted to a vaccination when she was younger, and lost consciousness. She was rushed to the hospital where they said that she had lost many brain cells. Vickie is intellectually disabled and she is one of the reasons I became an educator. I enjoy watching football with my family.
I graduated from Ball State University in December of 1998, earning two degrees. I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Bachelor of Science in Special Education. A week later, I moved to Georgia, and began teaching at A.L. Burruss Elementary in Marietta, GA. In the fall of 2003, I earned my Masters in Education in the field of Reading and Literacy from Walden University. In 2007, I earned my gifted endorsement. In 2010, I earned my Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University. I had the great honor of representing A. L. Burruss as the 2011-2012 Teacher of the Year.
I had many different teaching jobs while at A. L. Burruss. My many hats included: SIA Reading teacher for third grade, first grade teacher for three years, kindergarten thru fifth grade resource special education teacher for two years, fifth grade inclusion teacher for one year, team-taught inclusion second grade teacher with Lauri Bruton for three years, fourth grade teacher for two years, second grade teacher for two years, and I spent my last two years in Marietta City Schools as an inclusion teacher for kindergarten and first grade (I looped with my kindergarten class to 1st grade). I feel that these experiences have given me the knowledge to meet the needs of all of my students. After teaching for 16 ½ years, I decided to take a leap and move from teaching in Marietta City to teaching in my own neighborhood (too long of a commute) of Dunwoody. This is my sixth year in DeKalb and I am looking forward to all of the new adventures to come.
I am 45 years old and have been married for eleven years to my husband, Mike. We welcomed our first child, Sophie (a 4th grader at DES), in January 2011, and our second child, Henry (a 1st grader at DES), in 2013, and have been enjoying every minute that we are able to spend with them. We also have two BRAND new Bernedoodle puppies, Annie and Ollie. I am a big Falcons fan and love college football. I love cheering on the Purdue Boilermakers and the Wisconsin Badgers. When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, walking, playing tennis, reading and playing board games with my kids, and watching movies. This is my 22nd year teaching, and I still love getting up every day and working with students. I feel very blessed to be working at such an awesome school.
